According to the police, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) received a petition from Nana Akua Addo on August 20, 2026, in which she alleged that her husband subjected her to physical, emotional and economic ab¥se.
The police said preliminary investigations revealed that a case involving the couple had previously been handled by the Domestic Vi%lence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July.
Following the petition, Harold Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations. He gave a caution statement and was subsequently granted Police enquiry bail on August 29 with two sureties.
The police said Norman was scheduled to appear in court on October 8, but his lawyer informed the court that he had been admitted to a hospital and was unable to attend the proceedings.
Investigators later visited the hospital to verify the claim, while the police said they are monitoring the situation and will ensure that Norman is arraigned immediately after his discharge.
The Criminal Investigations Department also disclosed that it is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services and support for Nana Akua Addo and her children.
